Step One:
Our first step was mind-mapping different ideas, locations of the school, actors, also taking in to consideration the conventions of the music video. The ideas we came up with were as follow:
- Teachers rioting against the school rules.
- A mass of students running down the corridors holding hockey sticks in the air, causing disruption in school life.
- Vandalism on the Head Girl photos
- Hall ways covered in books, paper, rubbish, pencils, rulers etc
Due to the time limit we tried to get as much footage as we could in the video, also making sure it made sense and linked to the 'school rebellion theme'. However when editing we decided to mainly focus on the hallway footage, where most of the school riot was happening.
Secondly we wanted to show how the 'school riot' was planned in the music video. To do this we filmed students passing around a note school, informing everyone the time of place where the riot would begin. However we had a twist at the end of the music video. We filmed the Headmaster walking down the hall way, using an over-the-shoulder shot of him looking at the note, to reveal the information. The Headmaster screwed up the piece of paper, and angrily walked down the hall way, adding some humor showing that the Headmaster had been defeated from the riot.
Step Three:
Once the footage had been filmed we went onto the Macs and used Final Cut Pro to edit our music video. However once editing we discovered that all our footage was filmed at a Portrait angle, as we created the film using an iPhone 4 and hadn't realised this until the editing process. Apart from the minor mistake our footage had good quality, we started to then experiment with cuts, transitions and color change. I learned how to speed up footage, as well as make the footage reserve, which was a good skill to use in the film as it made the footage stand out.
Conclusion:
Apart from the minor mistake of filming our music video at a Portrait angle, it was very successful. It proved that filming movies on your phone and using a simple piece of editing/movie software, you can make a music video or a film, even a documentary.
